Dominican Republic

Sosua & Santo Domingo Mission

Found Orlando collaborates with grassroots missions organizations, churches, and rescue centers in Sosua and Santo Domingo to rescue, feed, and advocate for street children and at-risk youths and share the hope of Jesus with them.

The Dominican Republic is a country of 10.7 million people located on the second largest island in the Caribbean region, neighboring Haiti. The largest city and capital is Santo Domingo. Poverty is higher in rural areas, which means many people move to cities in search of a better life. Almost 84% of the population lives in urban areas, which is growing. As cities cannot keep up with the urban growth, many families live in urban slums. Children and young people who grow up here lack access to safe housing, sanitation, medical care, and education.

Nearly 28% of the Dominican Republic’s total population is under the age of 15. Although the country is one of the fastest-growing economies in the region, the children living there face many challenges, including a lack of access to health and primary education. They are at risk of being exploited and forced to work. Children without parental care need exceptional support and protection so that they can grow up in safety.

Through our mission in the DR, we can continue to rescue children from the traps of sexual exploitation, gang membership, and forced child labor. We also aim to raise champions of Christ and disciples who will bring hope to their communities.
